LISTEN: New mixtape from Iggy Azalea ‘Trapgold’

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has today dropped her second mixtape, entitled ‘Trap Gold’. The new tape features eleven brand new tracks, produced by Diplo & 1stDown of FKi and is free to download via her website or you can stream it via audiomack.

Where as previous releases have been feature heavy, Iggy has opted to keep it a mainly solo affair this time out. The opener ‘Yo El Ray’ suitably introduces both the artist and her beats master Diplo, who lays down one hell of a body contorting rhythm, and setting the tone. ‘Down South’ is a cheeky cut, summed up in the line “I’m looking up north while you’re touching down south” but ‘Demons’ is the potential standout track on the tape, very obviously produced by Sleigh Bells, the glitchy beats are complimented perfectly by Iggy’s flow and result in a building, twisting drive of a track. Whilst ‘Slo’ and ‘Gold Dust’ reveals a slightly softer underbelly to the tape, and Azalea. Overall though, there isn’t one dud song on the tape, which is the result of keeping it short, sweet and selective.

Since her arrival on to the scene with her first mixtape ‘Ignorant Art’ last September, Azalea has always been a master of hype and promotion. With this mixtape, she has opted for quality over quantity. The result leaves you hungry for more, and with the release of her T.I. produced debut album ‘The New Classic’ anticipated in the near future, that wait shouldn’t be too prolonged. Yet one thing is certain, with an offering like this Iggy Azalea has struck gold, and like the mineral the result is precious and in all to short a supply, guaranteeing that her value will rise even further.
